Interestingly, just yesterday I was driving from Los Angeles to San Jose on I-5 and I had a major failure. My 2008 Escape Hybrid completely failed....I lost all electricity, power steering, brakes....everything. I safely coasted to a stop on the side of the road VERY glad that it happened around 3pm and not on the Grapevine, at night, or with my children in the car because I had no power for hazards and couldn't lock the doors. The vehicle was towed to a dealership 55 miles inland and I am awaiting the analysis. I am renting a car and will have to drive back 3 hours south to drop off the rental and pick up the Escape WHENEVER it's fixed. If this is an expensive repair (which I am expecting it to be), this will be the last Ford I purchase.
"It appears that none of the Ford ESP plans cover the Hybrid Battery. You must read what components are covered in the ESP plans and I only found mention of the Hybrid Battery in the "Premium Care" under "Covered Components", "High Tech", "Unique Hybrid Vehicle Components (Excluding High-Voltage Battery and Cables)" So, sadly it appears the battery is not covered!!!!! " It is not covered because the Federal government requires a hybrid parts warranty to 8 years / 100K (10 years 150K for CARB states).
Great deal on a super great car. You did everything right in your deal!! My 2010 Mazda 6 GTi now has 18k miles, 2 trips to the West Coast, and still is as tight as ever and still feels and looks and smells NEW. Mileage is 32 mpg avg on the hwy and high 20's driving around home. WOW!!!
Chances are, this car sported black wall tires and wheel covers, or even small hubcaps, back in the day. I don't agree with that. It cost extra to get that Champion in the hardtop body with the extra trim, so putting "plain Jane" black wall tires and small wheel covers on it would have defeated that purpose. Studebaker had nice full wheel covers that year that did not cost much more and most Studes (except the cheapest models) seemed to have them. Our '51 and Grandpa's '52 did. Most hardtops I have seen were Commanders. I think the car looks great. I am skeptical about the $26,000 asking price, but he might get it. Economical cars like that might appreciate in price as gasoline gets more expensive. It is getting near $5.00 here in the Los Angeles area. A gallon of gas is much more expensive than a gallon of milk. Too bad nobody makes a car than runs on milk.
Just wanted to share some quotes received on 7/7. I ended up not purchasing, waiting to see if incentives would be better today. Looks like they're the same. With cash: Sale price $28,600 OTD $31,000 I got this quote from a dealership in Los Angeles, and subsequently 2 other dealerships were willing to match. I'm not in a rush so will wait to see if things get better closer to end of August.
