They were the one's who initially changed the ignition switch. When I called them to schedule an appointment when it started again they said there were no recalls on anything and replacing the ignition switch was the "correct" fix. They said I could bring it in for a diagnostics that would cost me $150 to figure out the problem and it wouldn't be covered so I took it to an independant mechanic since he was much more affordable. Both my mechanic and I have done much research as to the problem. Everything we've done short of cutting the white wire has been a temporary fix. I have had a new battery, new ignition switch, new passcode, new keys, new tumblers and nothing has worked. The one thing that I have done that lasted the longest was not using the remote security/locks at all. Took the keypad right off my key ring and manuall lock and unlock the doors. That worked for 3 mos or so then the "no start" problem started again.
That prototype, I have sat in. It moved with Avanti Motors to Youngstown, OH in 1986, and only last year was rescued from the bones of what was left there to be bought by the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend where it resides now. While still in OH and awaiting pickup by the Museum folks, I had a chance to sit in it. There was also a black version with two-doors on one side and one on the other...more of a notchback style. It's now in the Museum too. They were hand-built in France by an independent body maker there, apparently someone Loewy knew. I have to say that I'm happier with the way the production Avanti ended up over what these prototypes look like :) , but I'm glad they were rescued at the last minute. They are a nice-size part of Studebaker's history in South Bend the last couple of years.
Well that's what happens to a capital-starved company---they can't build the cars. Besides they were very expensive. You could buy a Buick Riviera or a Corvette split-window coupe or convertible for less, and a Series 62 Cadillac coupe for about the same money. That's a brutal price-point for an independent car company, and very stiff competition as well.
Hello - Mach3, a first-of-its-kind fuel re-formulator, is tested and proven by Independent EPA & CARB Certified Laboratories, Eco-Fuel Saver extends mileage by 13% in gasoline and 16% in diesel fuel, with many consumers reporting even greater mileage gains. Even more impressive, is Mach3 dramatically reduces toxic emissions - directly in the combustion chamber. It is proven to decrease; NOx (the primary emission that creates smog) by more than half; DPM (diesel particulate matter) by a staggering 60% to 90%; CO2 per quantity of fuel burned, as well as, reductions of other toxic engine emissions. Mach3 works by restructuring the long hydrocarbon molecular chains common to all fossil fuels into shorter, more easily burned molecular chains. This restructuring enables more hydrocarbon molecules to combust, at a slower and cooler rate of burn, thereby utilizing more of the energy stored in the fuel. That's one reason all vehicles have catalytic converters! To oxidize (burn) up the leftover fuel molecules. Mach3 causes a more complete burn. I do not sell this product; I am writing to tell everyone that it really works. If you drive alot of highway miles, you will see a noticable increase in fuel economy. Add 1oz per 15 gallons, gas or diesel. http://www.superecofuelsaver.com/
If the BMW was so good, why didn't stay with that brand, instead of going back to domestic cars? I never understood this brand loyalty thing so much. I try to get the best car for me at the time I need a car, independent of who makes it.
