Better to buy or seek alternatives? by jdg9675 on Tue May 10 15:50:04 PDT 2011

I am looking to lease an Outback (4cl Premium), but based on what people are putting in the thread it seems kind of expensive. Are the following better alternatives? (I live in Houston) 1. Dealer willing to sell Outback at $1000 below invoice. 2. Honda is advertising Pilot for $350/month for base model for 36 months, 12K miles per year, nothing down nothing for inception (bigger and more room - which are not big factors, but no AWD and not the best mileage). 3. Honda is advertising Odyssey for same as #2 price and terms. 4. Toyota Highlander also base model for $400/month 36 months, 12K per year. To me a car is a car, just want something safe with reasonable mileage. Wife already has a minivan so #3 is not the best option, but can live with it if the deal is that good. Your input is appreciated.

Re: lease for 2011 335d [Car_man] by mintytoo on Sun May 08 20:00:56 PDT 2011

Thanks Car Man, I thought it was .002 also, but the dealers in Houston are telling me .0024, and there were two dealerships who both told me the same number. How should I approach that with tact? Do BMWFS actually publish this somewhere or is that only for client advisor eyes only. Thanks

Hyundai is now guaranteeing your resale value. It is part of the new Assurance program they are running. If you trade in your car between years 2-4, then they will guarantee the trade in value of your car at that time.

I agree with the others. This is a case of the dealer smelling a softie and lowballing the trade. https://www.alg.com/ResidualValueAwards is where you can see plain as day about the Elantra. Of course, that is for the 2011 model. For 2010 a different car was tops in the compact class. I went to nadaguides.com and plugged in an 18K miles 2010 Elantra GLS and my zip code. After adding nav & sunroof rough trade-in was $12,925, average was $14,050, and clean was $14,950. Clean retail was $17,875. KBB is lower than NADA but still well above a flat $9K. Out of curiosity, she's got a car that's only one model year old and has average-to-below-average mileage. Why would she want to get rid of it already?
