was easy! I agree with Shifty-it is something you can do with a 12" piece of garden hose and a screwdriver. Many mechanics make a big deal out of it-it is not rocket science. A three-carb setup (Jaguar) is a bit more complex, but nothing for a good mechanic.

Re: Synthetic oil [zaken1] by wwest on Mon May 09 11:31:51 PDT 2011

But I think you might agree that the higher, single viscosity, 30, or even 40 weight oil would definitely result in lowering the oil consumption. All else be damned. But as the engines in my yard equipment, lawn/garden tractor, etc, wear and begin to use/burn more oil my practice is to use a higher fixed weight annual drain and refill. I have never done that with any car but then I have never had reason to worry about oil consumption.

It's the difference between water slowing flowing over the levee.... and creating a gusher by blowing a hole in it... In the latter case, they are saying that it will blow all the soil off... just like the hose of a power washer... On the plus side, the gardens near the river in Memphis should be especially fertile, next year... :(

Re: Question for NYCguy? [jmonroe] by driver100 on Thu May 05 04:35:34 PDT 2011

Being an "electrical" guy I naturally think of wire as electrical. That explains it. I have a friend, after high school he went to a community college and took electrical engineering. When he graduated he went to a big plant (manufacturing not a garden type) to get a job. He took the test. He asked if he got the job and they said no, there is no way we can let you work on electical equipment, you are color blind. You would think they would have found that out at the college! He actually got a very good job in a very different career.....funny how life works!

Re: Combined trips [pf_flyer] by lemko on Fri Apr 29 06:18:41 PDT 2011

I try to buy things a lot closer nowadays than in the past. I used to drive to a suburban Lowe's for house and garden supplies, but now go to a Home Depot in the 'hood. Same for pet food for the kitties. There is a nearby supermarket I can walk to as well as a CVS pharmacy. Any trip out of town, I try to get all the things I need during that trip.
