I paid $24,665 OTD for a silver 2008 Altima 2.5 SL w/ connection pkg. I don't know where the market is now, but back then, it seemed like a pretty sweet deal. Anyway, I've noticed several things upon returning to one of the dealers I was negotiating with to buy my car from. First, The 2009 Altima 2.5 SL (no connection pkg.) no longer includes dual-zone automatic climate control. You now have to buy the Connection package to get the dual-zone automatic climate control. IMO whatever advantage Nissan had for equipping their cars over a comparable Honda Accord is now gone. Use this as a negotiating tactic when you're buying a 2009 Altima 2.5 SL Next, I've also noticed two dealerships around here (Family Nissan in Oxford, AL and Nissan of Gadsden in Gadsden, AL) have put up stickers with "market adjustments" of $1000 over MSRP for 2009 Altima 2.5 SL sedan models and $2000 over MSRP for 2009 Altima 2.5 S Coupes w/ Premium Pkg. Is the market demand for these cars really that high? Personally, I couldn't see myself paying $29k for a 2.5s coupe w/ Premium Pkg. :( Happy hunting guys!
Plekto, I can't think of a single union that I am in favor of. I work for an organization that puts on trade shows for its constituents at various convention centers throughout the U.S.. We have to deal with the unions in most of those cities in order to set up our events. Productivity comes to a screeching halt because of the unions. We can't even move a box from one room to another without having a union person do it. And it's not like they come running when you need them. I recall when I was in high school in the Washington D.C. area I had a friend who worked as a cashier in a grocery store. He was making twice what I made at the local hardware store and got double time on Saturdays and triple time on Sundays and holidays. It was ridiculous. Around the same time frame, late 1970's, I new of a person who lived near my Aunt in Gadsden, Alabama who made $22.00 per hour sweeping floors at the local steel plant. That's over $45,000 in 1978!!! Unfortunately, the steel plant closed, probably because of having to pay ridiculous wages (and benefits). Unions are choking American industry.
I live in gadsden, al and need to buy acura mdx/tech package. interested in atlanta/athens area. can you tell me how much you paid with accessories, etc. i greatly appreciate. thanks
vhreb123 Update-- It wasn't Tameron. Brannon Honda on Gadsden Hwy was the one that contacted me. I don't know anything about Tameron. Try the NADA web site to find dealers within 25-125 miles and see their inventory. If this info. is accurate, it's raining civics within 75 miles of my house.
vhreb123 It might have been Tameron Honda. I just remember the guy's first name (which I can't print on here.) They were contacted through one of those web sites that finds price quotes. For me, they just were not as responsive to my e-mailed OTD price as I needed them to be. I was going to buy my car sometime in the next 10 days and needed some serious negotiating on their part. It may have been that they just did not have a good internet sales dept., unlike Sunny King. If you feel comfortable with face to face negotiations, the e-mail thing won't bother you. I would have driven to B'ham if they had given me my price. As it turned out the closest dealer to me went below my OTD price with some free service. I got both convenience and price. You can always e-mail or call Sunny King. Let them know they were recommended but that you live 60+ miles away and are only willing to deal with them if they can give you your OTD price. If you let them know time is money for you, I think you will get a positive response. I'd also let Tameron know that you would really like to deal with them as they are your local dealership, BUT you've set your budget for $??? OTD. Plus, remind them that they will get your servicing business (that is, if they really will.) Remember that you have Grissom in Gadsden, too. It may be 20-30 miles closer. They were ready to deal and had stock at the end of the month. I'm sure they too will get more Civics. Folks act like they are 'special editions/limited' or something. As with all of us, the best deal for you is the one you feel good about. I'm really glad (relieved) that I did not have to travel to B'ham. I would have had an anxiety attack trying to drive my brand new car home on I-20.
