In Italy, driving on the autostrada can be interesting because they actually use the toll cards (similar to the NJ tpke cards) to determine your speed and time, which is calculated when you get off. the machine also calculates the fine that you pay on the spot for speeding! My friend and I were driving back from Florence to Imola and at a certain point, he slowed down. However, when we got to Imola, our friend was the toll taker, so there wasn't any extra payment (;-)
I don’t have much in the way of details and I’m not going to ask him what he paid because it isn’t any of my business but he knows how to shop for a car so I’m sure he knows how to do it. It’s a done deal and while I don’t know what he paid he SAID he got a good deal. The deal he wanted, the options they had to have and a color his soccer mom wife liked, Burgundy with a tan interior. However, now I’m not so sure he knows how to negotiate. Because of this: Before he made the drive to Florence Ky he was considering getting the extended power train warranty to 100K miles (certified car as I understand this) so he called a few local Kia stores and asked them IF they had the van he wanted (Sedona EX, V6), what would the price be for that? All of them (3) said around $1000. So, to me that is MSRP for this warranty. After he gets the local price he calls the dealer in Florence on Friday morning and asks them what they want for this extended warranty and they said the same thing. He then asks what they really want for this warranty and they said, “that’s the price, we can’t do better”. Since we had discussed this on Wednesday I thought he knew how to go about getting a better price. I said to him, “I don’t know what the price is, you’ll have to research this, but if it’s all that important to you make the sale contingent on them giving you a better price than the first words out of their mouth. You’re a real buyer with a credit card deposit holding the car so you’re not just some guy fishing for a better price over the phone. Everything is negotiable. I hope you know that.” He decided to just buy the Sedona without the extended warranty and justified this by saying, “It’s probably not worth the money even if I would have gotten them down to $750”. That may be true but if the dealer would not have lowered his price, if it were me, I would not have bought the car. I would have made the decision based on a lower than MSRP price rather than just giving up. I wish him all the luck with his purchase and he probably has a very reliable van but I thought he knew better how to go about buying a car. jmonroe
Florence is my wife's home town. She graduated from Boone County High School. I am getting a lot of assignments in northern KY these days. Over the past six months I've had dockets in Boone, Campbell, Kenton, and Gallatin counties- and I've got some cases scheduled in Owen county in May and June.
Where did you go to school....Springdale? Princeton? St Gabes? None of the above... That was in reference to the Kia dealership in Florence...
I was informed last night by Son #2 that he will be traveling to Florence KY (just outside of Cincy) to purchase a 2008 KIA Sedona from Sweeny Kia. Our next door neighbors bought a Kia Sedona a few months ago. I believe it is used, but don't know the model year. Dark blue, and pretty sharp looking for a minivan. I think they've got the EX trim level. While there may not be a huge amount of sales stories on this thread, I am noticing quite a number of new cars on the roads of my little (50,000) town here in Colorado, so somebody is buying.
