Re: Old car test [driver100] by jmonroe on Mon May 09 06:51:18 PDT 2011

Nice to have a test when being 60+ is a big help. Yes it is but I didn’t follow the rule about multiple choice tests like this one, “when in doubt, make all the answers the same”. As a result I blew one section completely. Of course when I was in the Navy if we had a multiple choice test, or question on a test, if you followed that rule you failed the test outright. So maybe they worked that rule out of me or I subconsciously had a flashback and didn’t do that. The section I missed was identifying the ’52 De Soto, Henry J, Kaiser and Willys. I got the De Soto and Henry J correct at first but I got greedy and changed them and then I got all of them wrong. I also failed the second rule, “if not sure, leave it the way you had it first”. ‘fez’…no excuse for missing the Chevy ‘55/’56 question. Your dues are going up. :P jmonroe

I missed was identifying the ’52 De Soto, Henry J, Kaiser and Willys. Those were difficult. When I was a kid there was a guy with a Henry J parked across the road and I could get the Willy's through elimination. One problem is if you get one wrong, you will probably get 2 wrong. I did get one wrong because I made 2 cars Chrysler New Yorkers and didn't make one a Dodge Coronet, which is hard to do. Funny how your first answer is usually right, and changing it only makes it worse.

Re: Amanti rapid acceleration problem [nohelp] by umeweall on Fri May 06 14:13:59 PDT 2011

Yes, in that circumstance, pressing the brake pedal is completely useless, the car will not stop. Been there, done that, but luckily I did not hit anything in my instances. The only thing that works in that circumstance is cutting the car off, which I have done in previous instances. The KIA response "could not duplicate the problem". This is their standard statement, which is their de facto method of saying the problem does not exist. This will only be an 'issue' for KIA when some one that has the means to do so, files a class action suit against KIA, bringing in other owners to give their testimony on this vehicle. I have made the statement in the past about the potential for a major issue, if the vehicle decides to accelerate, ignoring braking, when approaching a crosswalk. The flip side is true also, if you are attempting to accelerate, to get across lanes, and you find that you cannot accelerate, with traffic bearing down on you (hope it is not a big rig, as they do not stop that fast and they do not expect a car to stay stopped in the middle of an intersection). From what I noticed, most of the KIA owners are older, and may not be as internet connected, to be aware of the issue of sudden acceleration/no acceleration/not braking, and may just figure that something flukey happened, or that maybe they did something. The accelerator pedal can be a challenge, for accelerating from a dead stop also, as it is sensitive to the touch.

2008 GMC Acadia leaking sunroof - water - moldy smelling by 2008slt2acadia on Fri May 06 11:42:42 PDT 2011

Bought a used 2008 Acadia SLT2 in December 2010 with 47k miles on it for my wife for xmas. It was great car all over, no smell, nice car. After the winter thaw now...it sounds like a pool in the headliner! Water comes in all over! so, fast forward a month or two, now the $30K car smells like a locker room, moldy and nasty like used socks. I pulled the front carpet out, cleaned and dried it etc. I went to the dealer and he smirked as I told him my dilemma (de lemon). Then he commented...sorry 3 years or 50K miles. Yes, me loose! I looked up the recall and then went to work and tried to seal the drain pipes with RTV etc. I thought I had it licked, hence a 4 mile drive in the rain the other day and now everthing is soaked again and smelly. It's a freaking crime, I'm $30K into a car and we hate it. (My other cars over past 20 years are Mercedes, BMW, Acura, Lincoln, Taurus's). This was my first GMC experience and may be my last. The truck rocks in everyway for us but i don't need a mobile pool! ANY advice or help is welcome!!! Steve B from Lititz, PA

Windshield wiper de-icer? by samnoe on Sun Jan 30 12:07:35 PST 2011

Previous generation Siennas featured a "de-icer" for the front wipers, but I don't see that feature advertised anymore on the new release. Anyone have an idea if it is still offered?
