Yes, Breakaway's price was OTD. They did not break it down, but as a SC Resident it would have gone something like this: Vehicle (including destination): $28,936 SC Taxes (they're capped at $300) $300 Tags: $39 I'd suspect that the vehicle price is actually slightly lower, and they charge a doc fee, but the OTD is the same. If you're in NC, your taxes and tags will be higher, of course (sorry!). Here are the NC Dealer quotes I received. All are OTD, based on South Carolina taxes/tags (Taxes in SC = $300, tags = $39). Adjust as needed for NC. Some of the lesser used words in our beautiful language are so pleasing to hear. I wish that we could hear them more often. Like icebox and drainboard? The latter slips out once in awhile and my kids look at me like I'm crazy. Not sure how my western Washington Italian immigrant family started using davenport but they did.
Richard-- My 79 year old mother did, and does, call "sofas" davenports. She lives in SE MI so your "midwestern" tag is right on. My OK students have never heard the term. Now, maybe you can tell me how bedroom suite (as in bed, bureau, end tables) has become bedroom "suit"--at least in OK? Well, my Western Washington (Stanwood) mother born of Norwegian immigrants always called it davenport too! Great. So if I jump into the "floaty ride vs. feel the road" exchange, I can say that Toyota, Buick, (or insert your fave) is like driving a davenport... and some of you will understand me. ;)
Please tell your lovely wife that you are actually exhibiting very good taste when you use the term "davenport". Mr. A.H. Davenport made such fine sofas that people began calling their sofas "davenports", though he may not have made theirs. Use of the term became popular in the Midwestern United States and in upper New York State. Today, most davenports usually refer to a sofa that makes into a bed---similar to a day bed. I think that it is grand that you use that term in your daily language. Some of the lesser used words in our beautiful language are so pleasing to hear. I wish that we could hear them more often.
