I'm located in St. Pete/Tampa/Clearwater area. So you think the numbers on May 2 will be better than what is available now? I've decided to offer them $500.00 a month including tax, 15,000 mile 39 month lease with $1500.00 down. If they accept it great if not then I will continue to shop.
Well Beetleites, I just got my 2003 2.0 convertible back from AAMCO in Clearwater Fl with a completely rebuilt trans. As most of you in this discussion know that this is a VW problem. I had the manager at this AAMCO location (which is right across the street from Lokey VW) look up in his cpu how many 2003-2005 buggies have come through his shop. 35 of them! All with the same problem and all with mileage under 100k. I only tell you this because it's going to take more and more of these discussions to get VW to listen. The silver lining to this is that Sam at AAMCO is a great guy. They were able to completely rebuild what they could and replace what they couldn't and got me out the door for $2,600.00 which as we all know is $3,000.00 less than what the dealer wants. It sucked to fork out that kind of money on something that is a manufactures defect, but the way I was handled and the quality of work was worth it. The weather is beautiful today, it's Easter weekend, and my buggy and I are back in action. I actually passed someone today for the first time in 16 months. On a side note, if you are still driving your buggy with major slips and bangs, please take heed. Based on what they saw when they opened up mine; I'm lucky that the transmission fluid didn't catch on fire and destroy the car. I know it is still a ton of $$, but again, i love the car. Good Luck! :)
"...extremely congested in Clearwater Beach..." From what I gather, Clearwater Beach is the latest "trendy" location and is undergoing a tremendous building boom. Did you notice all those construction cranes everywhere? As such everything is in short supply. We have visited Largo just south and a few miles inland; and have found none of the problems you mention. Even during Christmas week it was not that bad. Traffic is always a pain in the Tampa area but that's because no one stays home due to bad weather (except huricanes). A lot of NYers talk about locating to NC so there must be some nice places there too. I think I could be happy anywhere they don't put down salt in the winter.
All this talk about Florida. We just got back from a short weekend jaunt to Clearwater to see a couple Phillies spring training games with my family. The temperature difference between leaving Tampa this morning and arriving back in Pittsburgh? 50 degrees. Clearwater is beautiful, and I do love the gulf but it is extremely congested down in Clearwater Beach where we were staying. If you drive anywhere, there is traffic. If you go to a restaurant, usually a minimum of an hour wait. Gets old rather quickly. All in all though it was a nice trip, and a pleasant break from reality. To keep this auto related, the Taxi we took to dinner last night was a very old Studebaker.
Lokey Infiniti in Clearwater.
