I still haven't seen the McDonald's in Bridgeville, DE, in ANY GPS device, and I'd love to enter that merely because it annoys me that they miss it even though it's been there for DECADES. $499 updates are absurd. Subaru charges $230 (Kenwood unit) and I think that's expensive. Some people split the cost, one takes the east coast disc and the other takes the west coast disc. TomTom recented added red light and speed camera locations to my data. Custome POIs are neat, I did that a while ago (and shared instructions in this thread). There are so many though, the alerts go off all the time. Question - do yours alert you even if you're at a cross-section near a speed trap for the other road, i.e. the road you're not traveling on? It even includes the speed limit and the speed I'm traveling and turns red if I'm 5 over the speed limit. My 1490T does that when you're 1 mph over, but the 260w and 265wt do not. The 265wt displays only the speed limit. They're pretty accurate, too. I thought the newer models come with lifetime map updates included. It may be bundled. I did see bundles when I was shopping, it costs a little more, but less than buying them seperately. Nice that even these low-priced units put OEM features to shame.

What if you're in the middle of a long road trip and the cargo area is full? Roof rack I suppose. I was driving from Ocean City, MD to the DC area, about a 3 hour drive, and got a flat right about half way, in Bridgeville, MD. Luckily I had a full sized spare (98 Forester). If the same thing happened today, I'd be driving for 90 minuts on a donut, crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge at less than 50mph. Like I said, it's industry-standard now, so I won't complain because none of the carmakers are listening.

Depends...I drive to the beach a lot, and the older maps do not have the bypass in Bridgeville, MD, that I pass each time. It's just annoying I guess. Plus they're building the ICC here in MD, and that will change how I drive nearly everywhere (including to visit rsholland). For $65 an update, no biggie. For $230, ouch. At least you can split it in half if you find someone who wants the west coast DVD. $115 is acceptable, I suppose. Still, for that much you can get lifetime updates from Garmin. Like you, I replaced one of my GPS units, actually sold it to a friend, and bought a bigger screen. I may do the same with my nuvi 200W. They cost $149 new, if I can get $99 for it (with 2008 maps), it would make more sense for me to buy a new one rather than spend $65. If so I may get either a bigger screen (5") or one with traffic, or both.

I just took delivery of a new Traverse, Dark Cherry Metalic, with the back up camera. Nice ride! Very comfortable and roomy. Lots of bells and whistles with the On Star, XM and on board information system. Anyone in the Pittsburgh, PA area, I would urge you to go to Colussy Chevy in Bridgeville. Tell Kyra I sent you.

Cool, have a great trip. Garmin's POI database in that area is not particularly great, they still don't have the McDonald's in Bridgeville, and it's been there since the 1980s at least. Still, you should see plenty of gas stations and food stops along the way. Watch out for speed traps in all the small towns, especially where the speed limit drops. And also watch for red light cams on Rt. 13, don't run yellows!
