Re: BJ's wholesale in Bowie MD... [andre1969] by fezo on Mon Mar 14 12:24:04 PDT 2011

Saw a weird one today. Was up 20 miles north of here (Toms River, NJ). Prices were running $3.29 - $3.39 except one Shell station that was at $3.73 - and there were people there!

BJ's wholesale in Bowie MD... by andre1969 on Mon Mar 14 08:41:23 PDT 2011

$3.619 for 93 octane, with the member discount. Elsewhere I've been seeing prices for 93 in the $3.90+ range, but don't think I've seen $4/gal. Yet.

I did my research at Edmonds.com, here and various other magazines. Research showed that the end of December is the best time to purchase a new car. I purchased mine tonight. If I wasn’t going away I would have waited a day or two. I live in N.J. however I am also in MD a lot. I bought my car in Bowie, MD at Ourisman Hyundai. They are next to a Honda dealer and even though the Honda is more expensive, I played the two off each other. My OTD price including NJ Taxes which are higher, was $24033.00. This price was without Navigation however it did include wheel locks, mudguards and a cargo net. I received this without a lot of haggling and am quite satisfied with this deal.

Re: Power Steering Noise [myrtleman] by washington2 on Thu Oct 07 09:56:37 PDT 2010

I am on my 2nd power steering rack at 66,000 and seem as tho I need another one now. I took it to the dealer a month ago because of whining and knocking noise going on under the front end. They said that my power steering pump was leaking and the control arms under the front needed replacing. I paid them almost $700 to replace the power steering pump, and the whining noise is still there worse than before. Have not replaced the control arms yet. Trying to get the steering noise straight. I sounds like a little 1980 honda civic with 200k. I ordered this vehicle new I can't believe Buick is letting this type of quality represent them. Lets don't mentioned the Navigation been freezing the whole radio system for a couple of months now and the dealer said I need to replace the radio unit at a price of $1600. Not Good. I have a Used 2005 Jaguar XJ8 L the nav is still working fine a matter of fact it gives me less problems than the Buick as a whole with 50k miles. Oh I forgot the Transmission went out 2 times as well this year alone.

Yes, Andre, you have a good memory - I'm in Lusby & we previously compared notes on our old Dodge Darts. All of Calvert Co has really grown. You would never know, looking at it now, that it was the last county east of the Mississippi R, to get its first traffic light (I think the one at 4 & 231). Aren't you in the Bowie area? That junkyard got cleaned up when scrap prices went up. I used to see trucks hauling the old cars to Baltimore. Incidentally, there was a saw mill across the street from the junkyard & it closed in the 80's - I did manage to get some nice cherry planks from it. The bridge is the Thomas Johnson Bridge over the Patuxent from Solomons to St. Mary's Co. I remember talking to people in the mid-late 70's before it was built who had never been to the other side. That bridge is a source of backups - traffic is either slowed by repairs or by accidents. The SHA has a planning study for replacing the bridge - we just got a glossy publication in the mail from them because we've attended their open houses and signed up for updates. I use the nice 4-ramp state boat ramp under the bridge at Solomons. If you drive in the area, the worst route 4 traffic is the afternoon rush between Huntingtown and Prince Frederick. It is bumper-to-bumper gridlock between 4-6:30 pm weekdays. The auto insurance industry has put rt 4 in its highest category for fatalities. The surface is like a racetrack in some areas and speeds commonly exceed 100. The official speed limit is 55, but I think you have to exceed 80 to be stopped. There have been some high profile accidents in the last 2 years, such as the local police officer who hit a stopped car at an estimated 120 and killed a local girl who just graduated from HS. While I like driving the perfect road surfaces without potholes, it allows way too much reckless driving and we know several people who have lost their lives, including one of our kids' teachers, on rt 4. We've been T-boned and sideswiped (stolen car in a chase) with no injuries.
