Just accept that diesel exhaust is dangerous to asthmatics as a fact of life, which it is. That may be true as is many US cities. My suggestion to you is get out of Phoenix as soon as you can if clean air is important to you and your children. It does not look like your owning a hybrid has improved the air quality much in Phoenix. The worst three for ozone pollution were Los Angeles, Bakersfield and Visalia, all in California. Bakersfield and fellow California city Fresno, along with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had the most short-term particle pollution, while Bakersfield, Los Angeles and Phoenix had the worst year-round particle pollution.

Best 2011 MDX pricing I received for Base, Tech, and Advanced by nbyahoo on Wed Dec 29 21:43:29 PST 2010

You can see my posting yesterday for details on the 2011 MDX w/ Tech I purchased yesterday. I priced almost every dealership (Internet/Fleet Sales teams) in CA (San Diego to NorCal, as far East as Bakersfield and Sacramento), and also in Las Vegas. It turned out, the two dealerships that I found to be the easiest to work with and most reasonably priced were the closest ones to me -- Center Acura and Glendale Acura. I didn't go with the Advanced Package because I felt the additional features weren't worth the premium. (Also, this car is for my wife, and her needs are quite simple and she wouldn't appreciate anything beyond the Tech package.) I wasn't considering the Entertainment package so I never priced it with any of the dealerships. (I'm not sold on having built in screens and a DVD player given all of the portable gadgets the kids have already; but I'm sure the folks that spring for the Entertainment packages have good reason for doing so.) The pricing below isn't from one specific dealer, but the best pricing I found overall. All pricing includes destination charges and wheel locks. All offers came with a price match guarantee (with caveats of course), and some came with offers to beat competitive written offers by $300 to $500 (still with caveats). For the record, I never bothered with trying to price match dealer against dealer to whittle the price down -- it's not how I would like to be treated, so I didn't go after it myself. Here's the pricing: 2011 MDX Base Pricing: $38,750 2011 MDX Technology Pricing: $42,000 2011 MDX Advanced Pricing: $47,500 As I mentioned in my earlier post, I conducted all correspondence in email, received offers in email, and only called the dealership to discuss color options and set an appointment to see the car. I was respectful of them and their time, and both Center and Glendale Acura were respectful of me and my time. Please don't contact me asking for which specific dealership had what price, etc. I've pretty much cleared out my inbox and deleted all of the emails I received, and it's easy enough to contact the dealerships directly. :) Once again, I highly recommend Center or Glendale Acura if you're in S. CA. They're both class acts. Best of luck in your MDX purchasing adventures!

Re: '08 EX-L w/ RES and w/wo NAV? [jimbob1] by diginat on Fri Jan 11 12:16:36 PST 2008

We've committed to purchase a 2008 EX-L w/ RES and NAV, plus pro pack. The price ($32,295) is about $370 higher than my two lowest quotes, but I have my choice of our top two color options (Deep Cherry or Baltic Blue; we're opting for the blue since it'll be straight off the truck on Monday, whereas we'd have to wait a bit longer for the transfer of the Deep Cherry). With tax (7.25%), tags, license and fees, our OTD price is $35,006.13. Otherwise, we could have chosen a nimbus gray, white, silver, or slate green for a little less, but I'll be keeping this for awhile, so I might as well like the color. The dealership we're buying from absolutely couldn't go lower, or, well, maybe she could (based on the lower prices) but I'm still happy with the deal as it is. FYI: the dealerships with slightly lower prices (must deal with internet managers, I think) were Barber Honda in Bakersfield, and Keyes Honda in Woodland Hills, and based on my correspondence and conversations with them, I'd have been happy to work with either of them - they were both very professional and competitive. Lancaster Honda gave a good quote ($31,995 plus TTL, but didn't include the pro pack and didn't have the color I wanted). I'm buying from Robertson Palmdale Honda, and can absolutely recommend their internet sales manager, too. Oh, and as for eyeballing the olive green interior - no, I didn't, but my 2000 Odyssey was one of those ubiquitous green/gray Odysseys, and I'm ready for a change from gray/gray kind of colors. :)

2006 C230 Transmission Problems by mr_n_h on Wed Sep 29 23:40:14 PDT 2010

My 2006 C230 Automatic sport sedan just recently started acting weird: Extreme loss of acceleration up hill and the steptronic (+/- shifting) did not work... (I could only go 45mph when every one else was going 70mph up hill) when I traveled on a flat surface with no inclination my car worked fine, I then decided to put it on neutral while traveling at 65mph...when I put it back in drive it did not pick up the gears it just continued as if it was in neautral. I had to pull over and shift it into park...as i shifted form "D" to Neutral it shifted fine, but then from neutral to "R" the car jerked...from reverse to "P" it jerked again and shifted hard. I then shifted again to Reverse, Neutral, and Drive thus the car jerked and did a hard shift with knocking noise and would not drive. I shifted to neutral again and shut the car off. When I turned it back on it shifted smooth and I drove off without any problem. According to the MB Dealer in Bakersfield, Ca. the problem is the transmission internal speed sensor which will need a complete valve body which will cost me $2,300 at this MB Dealer. This dealership has acknowledged that many 2006-2007 C230's have had the similar transmission problems and they have repaired many. I then went to a European car center which works on mercedes and they too said that they have repaired about ten 2006-2007 C230's with the same problem within the beginning of this year. I find it very difficult to believe that there has not been a recall!!!! Every mercedes blog and forum on the internet is filled with 06-07 C230 Transmission problems dealing with the transmission internal speed sensor and the entire valve body. The error code reads a transmission internal speed sensor error....so why do I have to replace the entire valve body? I have read other owners have had the same problem and only had to replace the transmission internal speed sensor not the entire valve body. What do I do guys? Can anyone help? How do we start a recall? I do not have the $2,300 for the repair. Any suggestions?

Re: Class Action against MB...paid $42,000 for a brand new.... lemon [paulxk1] by mr_n_h on Wed Sep 29 23:25:24 PDT 2010

Im very interested in your class action law suit. I own a 2006 C230 and its been giving me many problems since 54,000 miles....first the ESP Error, Speedtronic malfunction, crank shaft sensor, then the SRS lights due to seat belt sensors($4,000 quoted repair) and just recently the transmission internal speed sensor which will need a complete valve body (according to the MB Dealer in Bakersfield, Ca.) which will cost me $2,300 at this MB Dealer. This dealership has acknowledged that many 2006-2007 C230's have had the similar transmission problems and they have repaired many. I then went to a European car center which works on mercedes and they too said that they have repaired a total of 10 2006-2007 C230's with the same problem within the beginning of this year. I find it very difficult to believe that there has not been a recall!!!! Every mercedes blog and forum on the internet is filled with 06-07 C230 Transmission problems dealing with the transmission internal speed sensor and the entire valve body. I do not know how far ahead is your class action lawsuit but I and many other mercedes owners would like to join or maybe we can start a new one.
