I had the same problem with my 97 aurora. A mechanic opened it in seconds with a "slim jim". Then the inside panel had to be removed and the mechanism replaced. Parts online for about $40.00 each door. Dealer gets $100. for part.

99 aurora door locks by brody3 on Wed May 04 20:12:39 PDT 2011

i have experienced door lock and exterior handle problems with my aurora, both drivers and passenger doors. currently i cannot open the drivers door from the inside or the outside. seems like the linkage or the senioid is not allowing the manual door lock rocker to disengage all the way. does anyone have a suggestion how to open the door? i have tried the fob, exterior key lock, interior electric switch and manually operating the rocker lock repeatedly. i have learned that many buick riviera parts will work, door handles linkage and the like.

Re: How long since you've seen one of these? [wgrafer] by stephen987 on Fri Apr 10 05:42:33 PDT 2009

Right you are, wgrafer--it's a 1968 Thunderbird Fordor Landau. Judging from my parents' experience with both 1968 and 1970 T-birds, in all likelihood frustrated owners gave up trying to fix the electrical problems and just let the cars go. Pity, though--the '68 has a nice sophistication to it in my eyes. I think maybe this is what the Olds Aurora was intended to accomplish 30 years later, a powerful, close-coupled four-door luxury tourer. Here's another, though somewhat different, expression of the concept:

Thought I had a deal! by hiflyer2 on Sat Apr 23 16:59:33 PDT 2011

Gerald Hyundai, North Aurora IL. Test drove a Sonata 2.4 LTD, no NAV. I had a quote from another dealer via email for $22,589, before TTL. Salesman & manager at Gartner said they would meet it. REPEATEDLY said they would meet it. Called the next day to say I was ready to put money down, & just before I left for the dealership the salesperson calls me and said they couldn't do it. He said the red (which I had indicated i wanted) now commanded a $600 premium. So (on the phone) I said I'd take the blue I had test driven. He said he'd need to talk to the manager & would call me back. When he did, he said they couldn't meet my price, that there was too much of an inventory crunch. How there was such a dramatic change between Friday & Saturday I have no idea. Called the other dealership, gave them a $500 charge (refundable) & they said they will locate the car I want for the price they gave me. I sure hope so, & will post what happens. I wanted to go with Gartner because they include a lifetime powertrain warranty, which was a nice plus. But to assure me of a price & then back out is tacky. I will admit they never actually wrote the price down for me, but they did retain a copy of the email i had from the other dealer & insisted it was no problem to meet that price.
