Some friends and I went down to the Masters in 2007. The golf course itself was gorgeous but I was very surprised at how seedy the overall area around the golf course was. We were not impressed by the city of Augusta, at least the parts that we saw. I moved back to the Burgh in ’97 so it might be a little worse now than I remember it. I’m familiar with the stretch of Washington Road that Augusta National is off of and that was not the best projection for the city back then either. If you head out towards Martinez and further down the road into Evans things got a lot better. Still, the city should do something about the front porch to Augusta National. I know this will be hard for people to believe but when I went down there in April ’92 a friend of mine offered me a free ticket to the final day of the Masters that he had come by from the company where we worked. Since I am not a golfer I said, “thanks for offering but give it to a golfer, they’d appreciate it a lot more than me, but I’ll join you for dinner afterwards”. Mrs. jmonroe had returned home after a week of house hunting the first week of April of that year and when I told her about the chance to go to the Masters on the companies dime, a couple weeks later, and I backed out, she said, “well, that was a nice thing to do but I guess you know everybody will now know for sure that you’re nuts don’t you”? jmonroe

"I can assure you the city of Augusta doesn't plant a bush or a blade of grass without first considering how it will impact the Masters." Same here in Pinehurst. We host the PGA---men's and women's every few years. The natives are put to every inconvenience. Year before last, they closed our main route into town (a state highway) so that the golfers and tourists could move around more easily...using their golf carts, bicycles, and stretch limos to park where they wanted near the golf courses. All Pinehurst Village parking was for the guests---to reach the shops and restaurants in an easy fashion. The Women's PGA is due here again in 2012. I dread it. Talk about your entitlement issues. They think that they own the place. We're always so glad when that week is over and done. Some people rent out their houses for $10K a week to the golfers, media, and corporate giants. Not us! We've heard the horror stories. They have wild parties and will trash your house in one evening. You can imagine what your house would look like in a week. We've decided that next time we will lock up the house and go to the beach for that week. Richard

It's all about pulling in those corporate jets for the golf tournaments, planting the flowers, manicuring the lawns, and making "kiss kiss" with the tourists. I know you're talking about your community in NC but if I didn't know better I'd say you were talking about Augusta GA. I lived in a town about 12 miles across the GA border in SC and have been to Augusta countless times during the 5 years that I lived in SC. I can assure you the city of Augusta doesn't plant a bush or a blade of grass without first considering how it will impact the Masters. jmonroe

2011 RAV4 Limited Edition by rav4er3 on Mon Apr 25 07:39:48 PDT 2011

I bought a 2011 Rav4 limited edition for $28000 OTD from Milton Ruben Augusta GA. It is fully loaded. Only rear view camera is missing. Leather, moonroof, navigation package, heated seats, automatic adjustable driver seat, bluetooth, 6disc changer, automatic climate control, push start. Is this a good price. BTW he offered me a 2011 RAV4 base model for $20000 OTD. I absolutely did not have anything but it was definitely worth. It made me think for very long time but finally ended buying limited edition. Is $28000 OTD a good price for limited edition?
